We have exciting news. SkinMedical Research and Diagnostics has moved. The diagnostic practice is now part of the Downstate Pathology Group University Physicians of Brooklyn at 450 Clarkson Ave, MSC 25, Brooklyn, NY 11203.
SkinMedical Research and Diagnostics was founded in 2009 by Dr. Melissa Gill, a board-certified Dermatopathologist and Anatomic Pathologist with a research fellowship in the genetics of cutaneous tumors, who has been working in the field of Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) since 2005. In 2008, Dr. Gill published alongside Co-Editors Drs. Salvador Gonzalez and Allan Halpern, the first textbook on Reflectance Confocal Microscopy: Reflectance Confocal Microscopy of Cutaneous Tumors: An Atlas with Clinical, Dermoscopic and Histological Correlations. Through her diagnostic and research work, Dr. Gill has developed broad experience in the field of RCM spanning cutaneous tumors, genetic disorders, inflammatory and infectious diseases, as well as basic science applications. Dr. Gill’s research passion lays in pushing noninvasive cutaneous imaging tools, such as RCM and optical coherence tomography, to the level of non-invasive histopathology and developing the necessary quality control measures to elevate RCM to the level of “gold standard.” In addition to her roles as Co-President of the International Confocal Working Group’s 2nd World Congress on Confocal Microscopy and Co-Director of the Cutaneous Imaging Expert Resource Group, Dr Gill is Co-Editor of the journal Cancers special issue Keratinocyte Carcinomas: Biology and Evolving Non-Invasive Management Paradigms.
Dr. Gill completed her undergraduate and medical education at Brown University in Providence, RI, her Anatomic Pathology Residency and Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Columbia University in New York, NY, her Dermatopathology Fellowship at Cornell University and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY and her Reflectance Confocal Microscopy apprenticeship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center under the mentorship of Drs. Salvador Gonzalez and Milind Rajadhyaksha, the original pioneers of the field. Dr. Gill currently serves as Clinical Associate Profession and Chief of Diagnostic Imaging in Pathology at the Department of Pathology of SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn, NY and as Research Consultant to Dr. Milind Rajadhyaksha’s Optical Imaging Laboratory at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY.
